Virtual Railfan’s LIVE train cameras at Old Mil-Custom Woodworking in Lincoln, Nebraska overlook BNSF Railway’s bustling Hobson Yard, where 4 major subdivisions converge. Old Mil is co-owned by Dan Nelson and Joe Kouma, who turned their shared passion for woodworking into a thriving business in the late 1980s. Since then, their expertise has led them to specialize in the awards industry, offering custom trophies, display cases, frames, and more.
Since BNSF Railway’s Hobson Yard is a major convergence of 4 mainlines and 2 Class I Railroads, our cameras at Old Mil-Custom Woodworking record every train arriving at and departing the yard, including locals, which switch several industries near the yard throughout the day. The majority of rail traffic is coal, with a healthy diet of unit aggregate and merchandise freight. Union Pacific also operates a local via trackage rights that interchanges with BNSF at Hobson Yard. Amtrak’s California Zephyr can also be seen from this location twice daily.
