Derailment Caught on Cam
Kansas City, MO – Virtual Railfan cameras had front row seats to a derailment that unfolded live on our cam. A manifest train navigating one of the connection tracks at Santa Fe Junction in Kansas City derailed, causing a substantial amount of damage to the cars involved as well as striking a support for the flyover bridge above. As you can see in the video, a 72ft centerbeam car was absolutely destroyed in the process leaving the car impaled on the bridge above. Workers arrived almost immediately to begin the process of clearing the tracks and removing derailed cars. No injuries were reported, and the line was cleared in less than 24hrs.

Kansas City, MO – This video shows the cleanup and recovery process in full detail. On Wednesday February 2, 2022 a Union Pacific freight train derailed at Santa Fe Junction, there were no injuries reported.
